Ellen's Bio
Ellen Catherwood has lived her life in Northern Ontario close to nature and with the bush within walking distance. It’s probably surprising then that she doesn’t paint landscapes. She focuses on still lifes and portraits working mainly in watercolour but has lately been trying oils as well. She is drawn to the effects of light and shadow and finds the sharp contrast adds interest and inspires her to paint.
She retired after 25 years working in ICU as a registered nurse and now devotes her time to painting for her own enjoyment as well as spending time with her family, children, and grandsons. She is a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC), the Portrait Society of Canada, the Northern Ontario Art Association (NOAA), and her local art club the Porcupine Art Club.
